This comprehensive 2-day certification course builds the essential skills and knowledge every professional barista needs to consistently craft excellent espresso-based beverages. From understanding the coffee bean to perfecting milk texture, Barista Level 1 equips you with the theory and hands-on practice to work confidently behind any espresso bar.
What You'll Learn
Coffee Fundamentals
Discover the differences between Arabica and Robusta, understand how processing methods (washed, natural, honey) shape flavor, and learn proper coffee storage and freshness principles to protect quality.
Grinding & Espresso Theory
Master burr grinder principles, particle distribution, and calibration. Learn the SCA definition of espresso, visual extraction cues, and the differences between ristretto, espresso, and lungo.
Practical Espresso Extraction
Get hands-on with the 6 elements of brewing espresso: dose, yield, ratio, temperature, grind size, extraction time, and puck preparation. Practice dosing, distributing, tamping, and workflow until extraction becomes second nature.
Milk Science & Steaming
Understand the chemistry of milk — water, lactose, proteins, and lipids — and execute the 11 steps of milk steaming to create perfectly textured microfoam at 55°C - 60°C every time.
Sensory Skills & Workflow Management
Develop your palate using both the SCA CVA and Good Cup sensory systems, learn ergonomic station design principles, and master CAYGO (Clean As You Go) along with daily machine maintenance routines.
