The Peterson family has owned and operated Hacienda La Esmeralda since 1967, when Swedish-American banker Rudolph A. Peterson acquired the estate as a retirement venture. In the 1970s-80s, his son Price transitioned the property from cattle ranching to coffee cultivation, building on Boquete's long coffee heritage.
This anaerobic slow dry natural Gesha is a micro-lot that showcases the Peterson family's mastery of controlled fermentation and extended drying. Grown at 1,800 meters above sea level in Boquete's highlands, this coffee undergoes an intensive five-week process that combines sealed anaerobic fermentation with deliberate slow drying to create extraordinary complexity. The result is a vibrant profile with grapes, lemon, mango, and peach notes that demonstrate how extended processing time can unlock layers of fruit intensity while preserving Gesha's signature elegance.
