5 Must-Bring Essentials for the Sinulog Parade

It’s January once again, and if you live in vibrant Cebu, you know exactly what that means. Known as the Queen City of the South, it’s no wonder why Filipinos and tourists alike flock the city every 3rd Sunday of January.

The festival term Sinulog originated from the Cebuano word “sulog’, which means “like a water current”. This describes how the movement of the dancers are during the parade—and yes, most of the time, the crowd too. So if you’re up to some movements, basking in the sun while dancing in a parade that could last a whole day, well then, this guide is for you.

1. A good sunscreen.

What more is so important than a good sunscreen that protects your skin from the sun especially when you plan to join the parade the whole day. Lather up your trusty sunscreen in the morning before you leave your house or the hotel and don't forget to reapply again after a few hours.

2. Of course your water bottle. 

Never, ever leave without it because this will save you from heat, not to mention the expensive prices of a perfectly ice-cold water being sold on the streets. Trust us, we know this. 

3.  Your camera, digital or film, everything is welcome. 

We know it’s a great deal to live in the moment, but, once the festival is over and you have forgotten to snap photos, you’ll have to wait for another year to experience Sinulog all over again. So take a shot of those moments, and we’re sure you’ll be smiling once the memories pop out your archives again.

4.  It’s time to bring out that hat.

5. Cash.

For convenience, bring cash with you or make sure you load your digital wallet because the ATM lines will surely be inconveniently long. Just beware of pickpockets.
