Acuii Sicayang's Gesha farm on the slopes of Mount Apo

Gesha is one of the hardest coffee varieties to grow. Thin leaves, weak roots, and roughly half the yield of most Arabica. Most farmers won't touch it. Acuii Sicayang built the Philippines' first Gesha farm anyway.

Before planting a single tree, he spent months in Panama learning from some of the world's most respected producers. Then he came home and planted at 1,700 meters, in Tinapai, on the foothills of Mount Apo.

What followed was eight years of nothing: no cherries, no income, and typhoons that wiped out hundreds of trees in a single season. He kept showing up anyway.

Gesha in the Philippines is no longer a question. It is an answer.

Today, the farm has two zones. The Slope, shaded inside a jungle canopy, where Gesha ripens slowly under mist. The Top, exposed to constant wind, where Caturra, Catimor, and more Gesha grow side by side.
