This lot sent a tribal cooperative to the world stage — literally, it's the coffee that represented the Philippines at the Global Specialty Coffee Expo in Seattle.

The Inhandig Tribal Multi-Purpose Cooperative, led by chieftain Adelina Tarino in Bukidnon's Daraghuyan Ancestral Domain, had only ever grown coffee for themselves before this lot won the 2017 Kape Pilipino Green Coffee Quality Competition. It's named after Inhandig, the specific part of their ancestral territory where it was grown.

The quality hasn't been a one-time thing, either — cooperative member Junissa Doceros placed 2nd in this year's Regional Coffee Quality Competition with a cup score of 82.17. Notes of jasmine, lemon, lime, and mandarin orange come through in the cup.

Before 2017, the Inhandig Tribal Multipurpose Cooperative grew coffee mostly for their own tables, a routine common to many mountain communities in Bukidnon. That changed the year they won the Kape Pilipino Green Coffee Quality Competition, and went on to represent the Philippines at the Global Specialty Coffee Expo in Seattle.

The cooperative farms within the Daraghuyan Ancestral Domain, land passed down and cared for across generations. Every planting and harvest carries rituals asking permission from the land, a practice as rooted in their coffee as the soil itself.

That was the time we learned about our coffee's potential, and began planting more.
